ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will have a surplus of 5.76 million tonnes of rice for export this year, a cabinet minister said on Wednesday.

‘We have had a very good rice crop last year and we are expecting a very good crop this year as well,’ Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira told a news conference after a cabinet meeting.

Sugar import

The country will import 500,000 tonnes of raw sugar and 500,000 tonnes of refined sugar this year to meet domestic needs, Kaira added.
